Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is living through its most active period of treatment innovation in decades. Yet many people living with small cell lung cancer are not experiencing that progress. A pan-European survey by Lung Cancer Europe, together with an advisory board of people living with the disease and those caring for someone with it, found a consistent pattern: diagnosis is often fast, but the support, information and involvement that should follow are fragmented or absent.
This webinar puts the two side by side, what medicine can now offer and what people living with small cell lung cancer actually experience across Europe, and asks how to close the distance. It is not a research update and it is not a list of problems. It is a practical, evidence-led session that ends with concrete steps for clinicians, industry and advocates alike.
The programme is grounded in real conversations: a survey of people living with small cell lung cancer, their caregivers and bereaved loved ones across Europe, and a facilitated advisory board that explored those experiences in depth.

Dr Inês Sucena Pereira
Dr Sucena Pereira specialises in thoracic oncology, interventional pulmonology and smoking cessation, with extensive experience in the diagnosis, staging and longitudinal care of people with lung cancer. She serves as Secretary of the Tobacco Control Working Group of the Portuguese Society of Pulmonology. She covers the route from first symptoms to diagnosis across European health systems, and why people experience it the way the survey describes.

Dr Giuseppe Lamberti
Dr Lamberti is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna, a tertiary referral centre for thoracic cancers, where people with SCLC are his primary clinical and research focus. He has authored more than 150 publications and has designed and led clinical trials in SCLC built around patient-relevant questions. He covers where treatment stands today, clinical trials, and the inequalities in access across Europe.

Dr Shields is a physician-scientist who cares for people with small cell lung cancer and leads a research laboratory dedicated to overcoming treatment resistance in the disease. As founder of the Small Cell SMASHERS, in partnership with LUNGevity, she works closely with the community. She brings a rare, grounded view of what people living with SCLC need, what current care gets wrong, and where access and equity must improve.
