Lung Cancer Europe welcomes its first member organisation from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Lung Cancer Europe welcomes Krila Nade (Wings of Hope), a lung cancer organisation based in Tuzla, as its first member from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The addition of Krila Nade extends Lung Cancer Europe's representation into another European country and brings new experience and perspectives to our network of patient organisations and advocates.

Supporting people affected by lung cancer in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Krila Nade, meaning Wings of Hope, was established in January 2025 in Tuzla, with the involvement and support of Professor Šefika Umihanić and healthcare professionals from the University Clinical Centre Tuzla.

The organisation was founded to provide more comprehensive support for people living with lung cancer and their families, recognising that their needs often extend well beyond medical treatment.

Its work includes emotional and psychological support, reliable information and practical assistance to help people manage the challenges of diagnosis and treatment.

Krila Nade also works with healthcare professionals and institutions to raise public awareness, promote prevention and earlier diagnosis, and improve access to care.

Working for earlier diagnosis and better treatment

Alongside its support activities, Krila Nade is actively involved in lung cancer advocacy.

The organisation has engaged with health authorities in Tuzla Canton to discuss the introduction of a lung cancer screening programme and improvements in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

It also advocates for better access to molecular testing and targeted therapies, recognising the importance of advances in personalised lung cancer treatment.

In June 2026, Krila Nade worked with the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy at the University Clinical Centre Tuzla to organise the international symposium Contemporary Challenges in Pulmonary Oncology.

The event brought together experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries to discuss lung cancer diagnosis, treatment, screening and multidisciplinary care.

These activities reflect the organisation's approach of bringing together people affected by lung cancer, healthcare professionals and decision-makers to improve services and support.

Strengthening our European network

As the first member organisation from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Krila Nade brings an important new national perspective to Lung Cancer Europe.

Our membership brings together organisations across Europe to share experience, strengthen advocacy and work towards better outcomes for people affected by lung cancer.

By working together, organisations can learn from approaches taken in different countries, share resources and bring local experiences into wider European discussions about lung cancer policy and care.

We look forward to working with Krila Nade, learning more about the challenges facing people affected by lung cancer in Bosnia and Herzegovina and supporting greater collaboration across our network.
